Thanks to the success of the 2024 Anacortes Yacht & Boat Show, Skagit County is sailing toward a brighter future with a $45,000 donation for marine initiatives. Kudos to the Marine Trades Committee of the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce who are donating $45,000 to three Skagit County nonprofits to bolster youth boating initiatives, support marine workforce development and enhance emergency response capabilities within the county. These funds were earnings from a successful 2024 Anacortes Yacht & Boat Show, jointly organized by the Anacortes Chamber and NMTA.
Here’s how the funds are being distributed:
- $32,000 to Anacortes Waterfront Alliance (AWA): For a new FJ-16 sailboat and two rowing ocean shells, supporting their new rowing program. The donation to AWA will enable more youth to participate in rowing and sailing, fostering a lifelong connection to the water.
- $9,000 to Skagit Valley College Marine Technology Program: $5,000 for learning module equipment and Mercury outboard test software; $4,000 toward rebuilding the One Ocean 52’ sailboat for the Around the Americas expedition. Skagit Valley College’s expanded tools and resources will prepare the next generation of marine professionals
- $4,500 to Skagit Bay Search & Rescue: For new radios and electronics for their recently acquired landing craft/search and rescue boat. Skagit Bay Search & Rescue’s enhanced equipment ensures faster, more reliable emergency response.
