NMTA’s team works tirelessly year round to positively affect policy, guide navigation through changing regulatory landscapes, and promote legislation that helps our members. Your membership allows us to collectively address issues and impacts beyond the capacity of individual members. All of this year’s efforts and accomplishments are too numerous to list here, but highlights include:

  • Early outreach to the Department of Ecology which led to the exclusion of marinas (NAIC 73930) from the newly expanded Industrial Stormwater Permit which is so heavily demanding of boatyards.
  • NMTA’s House Bill 1919, signed by the Governor, which reduces the mandatory grace period for marina owners to act on unpaid dues, decreasing it from 90 to 45 days starting in July.
  • Ongoing work with the Department of Labor and Industries to overcome the lack of load testing capacity as our members seek to have marine hoists (travelifts) tested in a timely manner.
  • Advocating against a proposal from San Juan County to implement a county permit requirement for recreational access into the county’s facilities.

Additionally, with support from members recognizing the importance of political engagement, NMTA’s Political Action Committee made strategic investments of $29,000 to 2024 Washington state electoral candidates.

Membership renewals were due June 30. If you have already renewed, thank you! If you haven’t, please contact NMTA Membership Coordinator Wyatt Asbury at wyatt@nmta.net.
