The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) recently launched the Waterways Access Initiative, a campaign focused on protecting public water access, modernizing recreation infrastructure, supporting conservation, and strengthening the made-in-America recreational boating industry.
A key opportunity is the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2026, which guides how the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers builds, maintains, and improves America’s waterways and recreation infrastructure.
The House and Senate have advanced their respective WRDA bills, which include provisions supporting recreation as a core Corps mission. The Senate bill also includes measures to improve marina lease policies, make public boating access easier to find, reinvest recreation fees in local facilities, and encourage greater investment in recreational infrastructure.
