During the NMTA Government Affairs Committee meeting on February 13, 2025, Rep. Greg Nance, vice chair of the maritime caucus, shared his passion for supporting the maritime community, highlighting his personal connection to Puget Sound. Nance discussed the need for a sustainable and efficient maritime sector, especially in the Puget Sound region, and emphasized investing in ferry systems and the broader industry. He introduced the Mosquito Fleet Act (House Bill 1923), aiming to acquire used vessels and build new ones to address service disruptions and bolster maritime infrastructure. Nance also advocated leveraging infrastructure funding to create sustainable maritime jobs and encouraged collaboration between state and local partners to support the industry.

The Government Affairs Committee acts on behalf of the recreational boating industry and the NMTA Board of Trustees as its voice on legislative issues and state laws which impact, or are related to, the interests and visibility of the industry. This is an open committee. All NMTA members are welcome to attend. The committee meets on the second Thursday of every month at 10:30 a.m.
