Is your project permit stuck waiting for a consultation with NOAA Fisheries (NMFS)?

The Pacific Northwest Waterways Association (PNWA) met recently with Dr. Tim Petty, Assistant Secretary for Oceans & Atmosphere at NOAA, to discuss the regulatory headache that’s been slowing down project permits across the region. PNWA is advocating for rescinding a 2022 NOAA-Corps memorandum that requires significant mitigation requirements even for basic maintenance projects. A new rulemaking is underway this month to clarify the process between federal agencies during environmental consultations.

We can help move this forward by providing Dr. Petty with data from our members on currently delayed NMFS projects. If your project is delayed, please send this information to Jay Jennings as soon as possible:

  • Name of Project:
  • Project Proponent:
  • Project Purpose: Action Agency (Corps, MARAD, etc.?):
  • Date of Initial Permit Application:
  • Permit Application Number/ID:
  • Date Permit Application Sent for Consultation:
  • Status of Consultation:

NMTA members are encouraged to send this information promptly to Jay Jennings (jay@nmta.net) so PNWA can compile the response for Dr. Petty. NMTA appreciates PNWA’s leadership and partnership in bringing this opportunity to our members.
