What does SAS do?
SAS is a grassroots nonprofit with a mission to inspire, encourage, and empower women and girls through participation in action sports and outdoor adventures. From snowboarding and mountain biking to wakesurfing and rock climbing, we provide affordable, inclusive events that build confidence, leadership, and lifelong community.
How were the NMTA Grow Boating grant funds used?
The $1,000 grant directly supported our Wake Day program—an entry-level boating and wakesurfing experience designed specifically for women and girls. Each Wake Day event brings 24–30 participants onto the water to learn boat safety, etiquette, and beginner-to-advanced wakesurfing skills in a supportive, all-female environment.
Could you have done this without NMTA support?
Simply put—no. NMTA’s support allowed us to expand the Wake Day program and welcome new participants who would otherwise never have access to a boat. It also helped us provide fuel, coaching, and safety equipment to ensure every event was fun and incident-free.
How does SAS support NMTA’s Grow Boating mission?
Wake Days help break down the barriers that prevent many from experiencing boating—whether that’s cost, confidence, or cultural access. With each event, we introduce dozens of new boaters, promote inclusive boating culture, and build a pipeline of future boaters, boat owners, and even coaches.
Anything you’d like NMTA members to know?
Your support creates real, lasting impact. Many Wake Day participants are on a boat—and riding behind one—for the first time. These events create not only confidence and joy, but new pathways into boating and action sports.
How can NMTA members help?
Adopt a Wake Day, donate the use of a boat, sponsor gear or fuel, host an event at your marina, or fund a coach mentorship.
