Patti is manager of Show Boat Handlers, LLC, NMTA’s boat handling division for the Seattle Boat Show. She and her team have the herculean task of getting all the boats in and out of Lumen Field Event Center for the show. Despite the stresses and complexities of the task, she is always graceful under pressure and unflappable. Prior to joining Show Boat Handlers, Patti worked at Dunato’s Boat Yard for almost 35 years. While there she also launched the Second Wave Marine Consignment store, one of her proudest achievements, as it helped encourage the reuse/repurpose of used marine parts and equipment and at the same time helped keep boating affordable.

Patti served on the Board from 2010-2021 and was Chair 2015-2017. She also served on the Boatyard and Boat Show Committees.

What do you most appreciate about NMTA?
In 2009 during the Great Recession, we were one of several boatyards that received an Intent to Sue Letter based on the Clean Water Act from a local environmental group. The support we received from the maritime community and NMTA was what got us through a very stressful time and motivated me to get involved to give back.

I now specialize in helping small businesses with bookkeeping and financial project management and enjoy helping them succeed. When NMTA needed help with boat handling it was a way for me to stay connected to the marine trades and put my skills to work. I enjoy the boat show spirit and love being part of helping exhibitors promote their businesses.

What can members do to ensure a smooth boat show move in experience?
The key to a smooth boat show move-in and move-out experience is to remember we are all on the same team. We all want a safe and successful move in and move out. Be prepared, be flexible, be patient and remember to breathe, then try to smile. 🙂

What are some things NMTA members might be surprised to learn about you?
I am not a boater. I grew up in a boatyard and seldom got the opportunity to enjoy boating. I love boats and dream about one day cruising up to Alaska. We own a 21’ Wooldridge Aluminum boat that my husband enjoys fishing and crabbing with. I had the privilege of being invited to do the Duck Dodge a few times and absolutely loved it!

Hobbies?
I love hiking and traveling. This year I got a chance to hike the slot canyons in Utah and recently returned from traveling to Hong Kong and China. I’m looking forward to doing more of both!
