Mary is the owner and operator of ALT Insurance in Anacortes and has been in the insurance business for 38 years. A lifelong boater, she specializes in marine insurance but also offers auto, home and commercial insurance.

When on the  Board of the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce in 2017, Mary was a catalyst for bringing Anacortes area brokers, the Chamber and NMTA together for discussions about a new boat show in Anacortes. Thanks to her leadership and the hard work of many, the first Anacortes Boat & Yacht Show launched in 2018. It has since grown by leaps and bounds. The 2023 show had 100 exhibitors and 185 boats on display!

What do you most appreciate about working with NMTA?
The hard work, dedication and ease of doing business with George Harris and the entire team at NMTA has made this a truly wonderful experience. They have all become family to me. I look forward to being part of the Anacortes Boat & Yacht Show for years to come. Our goals of growing boating for future generations will live on long after we have sailed into the sunset.

Personal boating history?
I grew up boating with my family on a 1948 40-foot bullnose Chris Craft. One of our annual stops while cruising from Gig Harbor to the San Juans and up to the Princess Louisa was Anacortes. After my father sold the boat, I was land locked. It took only seven months, and I bought my first boat, a 19-foot Reinell. A year later I bought a 28-foot Glasply and then a 40-foot Tolly. I have kept a boat in Anacortes since 1987. I now have a 43 Tolly, “The Woman to Blame.”

Favorite place to go boating?
My husband John and I have to say Sucia is our favorite place, where nothing has changed since I was a young girl. He proposed to me there in 2021.

What’s something NMTA members might be surprised to learn about you?
I was a part owner in a funeral home for four years and I learned that life is short. I am now in the 4

th quarter, there are no time outs, and the game is going to end. There is no place I would rather be than on a boat and no better friends than fellow boaters. My life is full of fond memories while boating. See ya on the water!
