Thank you to NMTA and RBAW members who braved the weather to attend Boating Day in Olympia on February 4th. The event was a success, with 30 meetings held with legislators and staff to advocate for recreational boating, its $9 billion annual economic impact in Washington, and key priorities. In partnership with the Recreational Boating Association of Washington, we forcefully conveyed the value the recreational boating sector delivers to Washington in terms of jobs, revenue, and cultural demand. NMTA focused on two member-initiated pieces of legislation: SB 5281 to welcome larger chartering yachts into our facilities and beauty for business and tax revenue 2) HB 1758/SB 5656 both of which will significantly improve aquatic-lands lease-holding marina owners’ ability to budget by replacing the index upon which their rates are based, from the volatile Producer Price Index to the much more stable Consumer Price Index.
The day concluded with a well-attended reception at the Olympia Yacht Club. We appreciate everyone who made the trip and shared their voices with our elected officials.
