On Monday, March 9, HB 2199 was signed into law, giving ports the ability to remove problem vessels from the water more quickly, while ensuring proper notification of the legal owner. This legislation was developed through a collaborative effort by Kitsap County Ports, county officials, and the Department of Natural Resources.

We commend Rep. Adison Richards, the bill’s prime sponsor, and the Washington Public Ports Association (WPPA) members who raised this issue with their legislators. HB 2199 will help ports protect marinas and the environment by addressing abandoned or unsafe vessels before they cause further damage.

NMTA is proud to support our partners in this effort and acknowledges the advocacy of the Recreational Boating Association of Washington (RBAW) in moving this important legislation forward.
