Jay Jennings, NMTA’s director of government affairs, Scott Anderson, CSR Marine and Dave Gering, Manufacturing Industrial Council testified in Olympia last week to persuade members of the Senate Environment, Energy & Technology committee to vote against HB 1814 which would counter Seattle’s established plan to connect the missing link of the Burke-Gilman on Leary Way, rather than across the entrances to CSR Marine, Pacific Fisherman, and other heavy truck intersections.
Also, last week, as the Seattle City Council considered legislation to rezone additional marine industrial lands for mixed use, Jay Jennings presented remarks to the Council describing several factors which are threatening to squeeze the marine industry out of Seattle. In both cases Jay urged decision makers to consider the cumulative impact of constricting commercial arterials like Westlake in favor of bikes and buses, leaving significant property crimes undeterred, and the already high cost of doing business in Seattle.
Please contact Jay Jennings (jay@nmta.net) if you would like further information about these issues or would like to attend the next Government Affairs Committee meeting on Thursday, April 10.
