Join us in saying a heartfelt thank you and farewell to Lorena and Leonard Landon, who have been the dedicated managing editors of the Waggoner Cruising Guide for the past 10 years. As they step into a well-deserved, more relaxed chapter of life, we honor their remarkable contributions to the boating community.
Often called the “bible for Northwest cruising,” the Waggoner Cruising Guide has been an indispensable resource for boaters, offering detailed information about marinas, marine parks, fuel docks, border crossings, customs, and more. During their tenure, Lorena and Leonard expanded and enriched the guide, ensuring it remained a trusted companion for cruisers.
A Legacy of Excellence and Innovation
- New Content: They added a new Southeast Alaska chapter and continually improved marina and cruising information.
- Comprehensive Updates: The Landons boated extensively each year, gathering updates and creating maps and dock diagrams for the guide, which grew from 450 to 528 pages under their leadership.
- Online Engagement: They wrote 3-5 articles biweekly for the Waggoner website and eNews, developed the online updates table, and organized engaging webcasts.
- Education and Outreach: The Landons presented seminars at the Seattle Boat Show and Cruisers College in Anacortes, helping boaters deepen their knowledge.
- Exploring Series Updates: They revised and updated the beloved ‘Exploring’ series of guidebooks by the late Don Douglass and the late Reanne Hemingway-Douglass.
Their contributions extended beyond the guidebook, including working with Waggoner owner and publisher Mark Bunzel on marina studies, website updates, digital ad sales, and coordinating the recently launched Waggoner online bookstore.
