NMTA’s president and CEO George Harris serves on the WDFW Orca Regulations Communications Advisory Group. The group and WDFW is seeking input from the Salish Sea recreational boater community to inform its education, outreach and communications work related to Southern Resident killer whales (SRKW) and the new 2025 vessel regulations that require vessels observe a new 1,000-yard setback from SRKW. These new regulations raise many questions for boaters, and these workshops are an opportunity for boaters to share concerns and communication suggestions.
