As one of NMTA’s original 13 members since its founding in 1947—and an exhibitor at every Seattle Boat Show since—Fisheries Supply has been a cornerstone of the Northwest marine community for nearly a century. We caught up with President Alex Sutter to learn more about the company’s legacy and continued impact.

How has your business evolved over the past 50+ years?
Fifty years ago, less than 5% of our business was outside the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. Today, while local customers remain our core, our website, deep inventory, and same-day shipping have enabled significant nationwide growth. We’ve also seen major shifts, including supplier consolidation and the move from printed catalogs to e-commerce.

What do you value most about NMTA membership?
NMTA’s support of the Northwest marine industry is invaluable—from promoting boating through shows and media, to workforce development, member benefits, and advocacy. Having served on the Board, I’ve seen firsthand the organization’s impact, something my family has long supported.

Any favorite Seattle Boat Show memories?
My dad has a few great ones: the high diver at the Coliseum, a competitor riding a bosun’s chair into our booth with champagne, and the day a windstorm blew down the tent outside the Kingdome.

Alex served on NMTA’s Board 2016 – 2025,  and was Board Chair from 2021–22. Over the years, Carl dedicated countless hours to Boat Show task forces and the Membership Committee, and has long been a steadfast NMTA advocate behind the scenes.

We’re grateful for Fisheries Supply’s nearly 80 years of NMTA membership, leadership, and support. Thank you, Carl, Alex, and team!
