Legislative Day in Olympia on January 29 was a resounding success, underscoring the importance of showing up and advocating for recreational boating in Washington. Representatives from NMTA and RBAW held 34 productive meetings with legislators and staff, reinforcing the sector’s $9 billion annual economic impact and its role in supporting more than 23,000 jobs, revenue, and the state’s maritime culture. Key discussions focused on SB 2199 to expedite derelict vessel removal and the importance of protecting the Derelict Vessel Removal Fund.

The day began with a well-attended lunch with members and staff of the Maritime Caucus and concluded with an evening reception at the Olympia Yacht Club that brought together lawmakers, industry leaders, and partners. A special thank-you to NMMA for partnering with us to make the evening reception possible and to NMMA’s Clay Crabtree, Senior Director of Public Policy for attending and lending his support.

NMTA is grateful to everyone who participated. Showing up in person helps legislators connect the dots between policy decisions and the businesses, jobs, and communities they impact. Days like this truly make a difference.
